The Importance of Proper Documentation

The success of an Aadhaar application heavily depends on the validity of the documents submitted.

UIDAI has a strictly defined list of acceptable documents for Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA), Proof of Relationship (PoR), and Date of Birth (DoB).

Using unauthorized documents will lead to immediate rejection of the application.

Proof of Identity (PoI) Documents

PoI documents must contain the applicant’s name and photograph.

The most commonly accepted documents include:

  • Passport
  • Voter ID Card
  • PAN Card
  • Driving License
  • Ration Card with Photo
  • Government-issued ID cards with photo.

Proof of Address (PoA) Documents

PoA documents must contain the applicant’s name and full residential address.

Accepted documents include:

  • Bank Statement or Passbook (not older than 3 months)
  • Electricity Bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Water Bill
  • Telephone Landline Bill
  • Property Tax Receipt
  • Insurance Policy Document.

Documents for Proof of Relationship (PoR)

PoR is required when a family member is being enrolled based on the head of the family's documents.

Acceptable PoR includes:

  • MNREGA Job Card
  • PDS Card
  • Birth Certificate issued by the Registrar of Births
  • Pension Card
  • Army Canteen Card.

Date of Birth (DoB) Documentation

Verification of age is vital. Accepted documents are:

  • Birth Certificate
  • SSLC Book/Certificate
  • Passport
  • Certificate of Date of Birth issued by a Group A Gazetted Officer on letterhead.

Self-Declaration and Head of Family (HoF) Based Enrolment

In cases where an individual does not have valid documents in their own name, UIDAI allows enrolment based on the Head of Family (HoF) using PoR documents.

This is particularly useful for housewives and elderly family members who may not have utility bills in their name.
